Europe is finally acting on its migrant policy after years of terror, turmoil, political and demographic shifts, and rising demands to preserve its cultural identity.

European Union (EU) officials are working on finalizing a major overhaul to their migration policies after a decade of unprecedented migration from non-EU nations that has led to terror attacks, hardship, and eventually the rise to power of right-wing political parties. The EU’s new policies would, among other major changes, prevent people from applying for asylum in member nations if a suitable “safe third country” exists.

“We will be able to reject people that have no reason for asylum in Europe, and then it will be possible for us to make mechanisms and procedures that enable us to return them faster,” Danish Taxation Minister Rasmus Stoklund said according to the Associated Press. “It should not be human smugglers that control the access to Europe.”

The overhaul specifically addresses the Syrian Refugee Crisis, deeming asylum seekers from the country no longer at “risk of persecution” due to the stabilization underway after 13 years of civil war ended with the fall of former dictator Bashar al-Assad.

The EU admitted more than 1 million refugees from 2015 to 2023 during the Syrian civil war, with Germany taking the lion’s share of migrants. A large portion of the EU held a “refugees welcome” policy during the 2010s, which in part resulted in numerous terrorist attacks from bad actors admitted during the mass migration, which continue to this day.

Should the EU implement new migration policies to limit asylum applications from certain countries?

Europe has seen a massive influx of foreign-born immigrants over the last decade, with the share of foreign residents in the European Union (EU) reaching nearly 10% across the board in 2024, according to EU statistics. This demographic upheaval has given rise to multiple right-wing parties across Europe that have won major elections on anti-migration platforms.

The new National Security Strategy (NSS) document released Friday outlining the Trump administration’s official positions on defense, security, and foreign policy, asserts that Europe faces the potential for “civilizational erasure” if it cannot address the migration and refugee crisis.

“Should present trends continue, the continent will be unrecognizable in 20 years or less,” the NSS read.

The European Commission did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
