Democratic California Rep. and gubernatorial candidate Eric Swalwell skipped more House votes than any active member of Congress, according to voting record data analyzed by the New York Post.

Swalwell has been under media scrutiny following the launch of a federal investigation into alleged mortgage and tax fraud and his California governor bid’s announcement just one week later. Since launching his campaign, Swalwell has reportedly been rarely seen in Washington, D.C., according to the Sacramento Bee.

Voting records collected by the nonpartisan website GovTrack show that of the 342 House roll call votes in 2025, Swalwell has missed 95 since January, not including absences from committee hearings.

By comparison, Swalwell missed more votes than fellow California Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi, who suffered a hip injury after a fall in December 2024.

The 85-year-old lawmaker underwent hip surgery, which typically requires roughly six months of recovery. However, GovTrack data show Pelosi has missed only 46 of the 342 House roll call votes in 2025.

Swalwell did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

On Nov. 12, NBC first reported that Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi alleging Swalwell may have made false or misleading statements in loan documents tied to the purchase of a Washington, D.C., home. Pulte later expanded on the allegations, probing potential mortgage fraud.

At the time, Swalwell told the DCNF that “the only thing” that surprised him was how long it took President Donald Trump to go “after” him, adding that he would not drop his lawsuit against the president.

“Like James Comey and John Bolton, Adam Schiff and Lisa Cook, Letitia James and the dozens more to come – I refuse to live in fear in what was once the freest country in the world,” Swalwell told the DCNF.

Just one week after the reports, Swalwell announced his run for California governor on Nov. 21 during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” portraying himself as the state’s “protector” against Trump. According to the Sacramento Bee, however, Swalwell has not cast a House vote since launching his campaign.

Data from GovTrack shows that Swalwell has missed 50 of the 61 roll call votes, which is 82% between Sept. 19 through Tuesday, last voting on Nov. 18.

Overall data from GovTrack show Swalwell has missed more than 550 votes out of 7,253 since entering Congress. While the average House member misses about 2.1% of votes, Swalwell has missed 7.7%, according to the website.
