Former President Donald Trump isn’t waiting for permission or playing political games. On Monday, he announced that his trusted Border Czar, Tom Homan, is being deployed directly to Minneapolis and St. Paul to take control of Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the state — and report straight to Trump.
The bombshell move follows a string of violent protests, two deaths of anti-ICE protesters, and a swirling federal investigation into one of the state’s most high-profile elected officials — Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar.
Trump posted on Truth Social: “I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight. He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me.”
Homan, the no-nonsense former ICE Director known for his tough stance on illegal immigration, will now oversee on-the-ground ICE actions while collaborating with the Department of Justice on what Trump calls a “massive 20 Billion Dollar, Plus, Welfare Fraud” operation that he links to the unrest gripping the streets of the Twin Cities.
And that’s not all.
Trump added, “Additionally, the DOJ and Congress are looking at ‘Congresswoman’ Ilhan Omar, who left Somalia with NOTHING, and is now reportedly worth more than 44 Million Dollars. Time will tell all.”

Should Tom Homan oversee ICE operations in Minnesota?
Federal officials confirmed the unrest has had real-world consequences. One ICE operation was abandoned after protesters clashed with agents, injuring law enforcement and allowing a target to escape. ICE says one officer was *permanently maimed* — after a protester reportedly *bit off part of his finger*.
In a separate incident still under investigation, protester Alex Pretti was fatally shot by federal agents on Jan. 24. Video shows officers deploying irritants before the fatal moment. Another protester, Renee Nicole Good, was also killed earlier this month. Makeshift memorials have sprung up in Minneapolis, even as the federal response intensifies.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Homan will “coordinate with others on the ongoing fraud investigations,” but declined to say whether Trump had lost confidence in current ICE leadership on the ground.
Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino didn’t mince words in a weekend presser, blaming “politicians and their weaker-minded followers” for obstructing ICE operations and putting agents in danger.
“This individual walks the streets today because of those choices,” Bovino warned. “Sad state of affairs.”
With Minnesota at the epicenter of chaos, the deployment of Tom Homan signals a new phase in Trump’s 2026 strategy: go big, get tough, and take no prisoners.
