President Donald Trump has said he does not believe the attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) Tuesday night was a spontaneous protest.
Trump spoke with ABC News’ Rachel Scott after the incident when a man sprayed Omar with unknown liquid, per Mediaite.
Scott asked Trump if he saw a video of the attack.
“No. I don’t think about her. I think she’s a fraud. I really don’t think about that. She probably had herself sprayed, knowing her,” Trump said and Scott posted on X.
“I haven’t seen it. No, no. I hope I don’t have to bother,” Trump added.
Omar was conducting a town hall in Minneapolis, where she called for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after recent events in Minneapolis where two citizens have been killed.
As Omar spoke, a man advanced towards the podium and an unidentified substance at Omar.
The man was immediately taken into custody.
“We will continue,” Omar said. “This f**king a**hole is not getting away with this.”
Police identified the man as Anthony J. Kazmierczak, 55.
Trump and Omar, originally from Somalia, have been feuding for some time.
Trump wrongly claimed at a rally last year that Omar was “here illegally.” This incited the crowd to yell, “Send her back!”
Just last week, Trump called for the lawmaker to be investigated for “political crimes.”
He has also called Omar “garbage” and declared he does not want any Somalis in the U.S.
“They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country, I’ll be honest with you,” the president last month. “Some will say that is not ‘politically correct.’” I don’t care. Their country is no good for a reason.”
