The Somali woman who gave the viral “bananas and rice” speech was arrested Wednesday for obstructing federal law enforcement, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Bondi posted to X a list of individuals who were arrested for allegedly impeding federal law enforcement operations, including Nasra Ahmed, 23. Ahmed went viral for a speech in which she said “Being Somali isn’t just eating bananas with rice, it’s like a cultural fusion, it’s kind of like the bananas and rice.”
Bondi announced that she was on the ground with federal agents Wednesday in an X post. Ahmed is one of 16 individuals arrested by federal law enforcement for “assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees,” according to Bondi’s X post.
The arrests come in the midst of ongoing protests in Minnesota, erupting after the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti during federal law enforcement operations. Anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protesters have targeted federal officers in the aftermath, attacking hotels suspected to hold ICE agents.
