Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett isn’t backing down from one of the more brazen false claims made on Capitol Hill last year. In fact, she’s doing the opposite. She’s effectively admitting that lying is acceptable, even necessary, in today’s political climate.

Back in November, Crockett claimed Republican Lee Zeldin accepted money from “Jeffrey Epstein.” The implication was obvious and explosive. There was just one problem. The donor she referenced was not the notorious sex predator Jeffrey Epstein. Crockett knew that at the time. The names were similar, the people were not, and the accusation was false.

Despite that, Crockett now says she owes no apology.

When pressed, she brushed off the deception as a product of the current environment in Washington, D.C., a place where truth is apparently optional if the political payoff is good enough. The message was clear. Accuracy takes a back seat to narrative, and collateral damage doesn’t matter as long as the target is a Republican.

You don’t have to take anyone’s word for it. Crockett said it herself. Hear her explain why lying isn’t really lying anymore.

Jasmine Crockett admits she’ll lie from the House floor when needed:

Question: You accused Lee Zeldin of taking money from Jeffrey Epstein, and it wasn’t the same person. Did the rhetoric go too far, or can you say I messed that one up?

Crockett: No. Not in this environment. pic.twitter.com/nPQvtXujur

Should politicians be held accountable for lying in political discourse?

This is exactly why many Americans believe Washington is broken beyond repair. Crockett isn’t an outlier. She’s a symptom. And judging by the reaction from her supporters, she’s saying what plenty of Democrats already believe but don’t usually say out loud.

Online reactions summed it up bluntly. This willingness to lie for political gain is nothing new. Posters quickly pointed to former Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who famously lied about Mitt Romney not paying taxes during the 2012 presidential race. Reid later admitted he made it up. He never apologized. He never faced consequences. And he made it clear he believed the lie was justified because it hurt his opponent.

Crockett appears to be following that exact playbook.

The difference is that this time, there’s no pretense. No walk-back. No attempt to claim confusion. She’s essentially arguing that honesty is a luxury politicians can’t afford, and voters should just accept it.

That attitude says a lot about where one party is headed. The Democrats don’t just have a dishonesty problem. They have a new generation of politicians who see deception as a legitimate tool, not a moral failure.

Commenters have pointed out that this mindset should never be acceptable, regardless of party. Lying should not be an option. Not in campaigns. Not in Congress. Not when making accusations that can permanently damage someone’s reputation.

Yet here we are. No one expects Crockett to suddenly embrace honesty. There’s no sign of remorse, no hint of accountability, and certainly no apology coming. And judging by her public remarks, she doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong.

When a politician tells you who they are, it’s usually a good idea to listen. When Jasmine Crockett tells you she’s willing to lie to achieve political goals, believe her.
