An already busy day at the Dallas Cowboys’ headquarters took an unexpected turn when a familiar face walked into the room mid-press conference.
According to the New York Post, team owner Jerry Jones and front office executives were addressing reporters ahead of the NFL Draft when former President Bill Clinton suddenly appeared, briefly stealing the spotlight.
“I’m negotiating the draft,” Clinton quipped as he entered, catching the room off guard.
Jones, 83, quickly reacted to the surprise visit, rising to greet Clinton — a fellow Arkansas native — and nearly losing his footing as he stepped away from the podium.
“I’m glad to see ya,” Jones said as he welcomed the former president.
Clinton’s visit was not explained during the appearance, and it remained unclear why he stopped by. Still, the moment added a lighthearted interruption to an otherwise routine pre-draft briefing.
Jones took a moment to reflect on their relationship.
“He’s been a wonderful not only president but a friend over the years, and really happy to have you here today,” Jones said.
Clinton responded briefly before moving on.
“Thank you, I’m glad to see you,” he said. “Have a good draft day.”
The encounter also brought back memories of a different era for the Cowboys franchise.
Clinton was in the White House the last time Dallas won a Super Bowl, roughly three decades ago.
During the team’s dominant run in the 1990s, the Cowboys visited Washington following each of their championships.
After their victory in Super Bowl XXVII, then-head coach Jimmy Johnson and Jones presented Clinton with a No. 1 Cowboys jersey during a White House ceremony.
“Mr. President, it is a tremendous thrill and tremendous honor for all of us to make you an official member of the Dallas Cowboys as a reserve quarterback,” Johnson said at the time, prompting laughter.
Clinton played along with the moment.
“Thank you. I’m just going to sit around now and wait for my number to be called,” he joked. “I’m going to start practicing this afternoon. You know, it’s never too late.”
Back in the present, the Cowboys are focused on the upcoming draft, where they hold the No. 12 and No. 20 picks in the first round.
The event begins Thursday night, but for a brief moment, the spotlight shifted from football strategy to an unexpected presidential drop-in.
