There’s some pretty sweet activity at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. thanks to first lady Melania Trump.
Trump has added a new, fully functioning beehive in the shape of the White House on the South Lawn grounds.
The expansion, which was announced Friday, expanded the existing honey production and beekeeping program at the White House.
The new hive will add two new bee colonies to the two current existing colonies producing honey, per the White House. Thousands of bees will increase honey production by about 30 pounds a year.
Watch:
Currently, bees on the property are producing about 200 or more pounds of honey in a productive year.
The light clover and basswood honey flavors teas, dressings, and desserts in the White House as well as, doubles as gifts and donations to nearby food kitchens.
It supports pollination in the Kitchen Garden and nearby areas, too.
The White House executive residence staff designed the hive and its base, which was hand-crafted by a local Virginia artisan, the White House said.
The Trust for the National Mall, the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, is funding the beekeeping program’s expansion.
The program officially began in 2009, during the administration of then-President Barack Obama.
White House’s carpenter started beekeeping as a hobby on the grounds a few years before that, the White House says.
During the peak summer months, the current hive populations have about 70,000 bees.
Many on X think this is a bee-utiful idea.
