Tucker Carlson is weighing in on the news that President Joe Bidenâs son, Hunter Biden, had entered a plea deal with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding charges of tax evasion and unlawful possession of a firearm.
During his fifth episode on Twitter, the former Fox News host described the plea agreement with the DOJ as washing âa lifetime of sinsâ away from Hunter Biden.
A court filing shows that Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to two counts of failing to pay federal income tax and to one count of possessing a firearm âby a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.â
âThe Justice Department just baptized Hunter Biden,â said Carlson on Tuesday. âA lifetime of sins washed away in an instant.â
âDonald Trump had an idea, âTheyâll hit Hunter with something small to make their strike on me look fair,â Trump wrote that, about two weeks ago,â Carlson said. âIt turned out, those were precious words.â
He added: This morning Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to pretty much nothing. Biden plead to two misdemeanor tax evasion charges, then entered a diversion on a federal gun charge. Thatâs it.â
Carlson continued:
âAs far as Merrick Garlandâs Justice Department is concerned Hunter Biden is done. There was no predawn raid carried live simultaneously on CNN, there was no perp walk, no handcuffs, no press conference. Above all, there was no felony. Hunter Biden, who broke federal gun laws can still carry a gun.â
If the plea agreement is accepted by a judge, Hunter will likely not have to serve jail time, according to The Hill.
Twitter owner Elon Musk commented on Carlsonâs video, pointing out that it raised âinteresting questions.â
Former President Donald Trumpcompared Hunterâs plea agreement to a âtraffic ticketâ in a post on Truth Social. Trump was indicted on 37 counts earlier this month, for allegedly mishandling classified documents and conspiring to obstruct justice.
âOur system is BROKEN!â Trump wrote in his post, also blasting the DOJ as being âcorrupt.â
While Republicans, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), have criticized the deal as being a slap on the wrist, CNN legal analyst Jennifer Rodgers dismissed accusations that Hunter Biden had received a âsweetheart deal.â
âYou would look to other similar cases,â said Rodgers in response to a question from CNN anchor John Berman, adding that this was a âtotally standardâ plea agreement.
