Attorney General William Barr is taking a swing at the Democratic Party.
When asked by Fox News host Mark Levin on Sunday about Barr’s recent House Judiciary Committee hearing and the “change of the whole nature” of hearings, Barr said that things have “fundamentally changed” regarding partisanship over the years.
Barr went on to suggest “the left-wing has really withdrawn and pulled away from the umbrella of classical liberal values that have undergirded our society since our founding.”
He added with the allegation that the Democratic Party “believes in tearing down the system.”
“I think the left has essentially withdrawn from this model, and really represents a Rousseauian revolutionary party that believes in tearing down the system,” the attorney general said, adding, “They’re interested in complete political victory, they’re not interested in compromise, they’re not interested in dialectic exchange of views.”
He continued to suggest that Democrats are “interested in total victory,” and added, “It’s a secular religion. It’s a substitute for religion.”

During the interview, Barr also spoke about Antifa, calling it a “new form of urban guerrilla warfare.”
Antifa is “a loose collection of groups, networks and individuals who believe in active, aggressive opposition to far right-wing movements,” as the Anti-Defamation League describes.

“What they do is they are essentially shielding themselves or shrouding themselves in First Amendment activity,” Barr said. “They go into the demonstrations, which are exercising First Amendment activity, and they insinuate themselves in there to shield themselves… And what they do is they hijack these demonstrations and… they provoke violence.”
