Randy Murdaugh broke his silence after his brother, Alex Murdaugh, was convicted of killing his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul.

During an interview with The New York Times, Randy Murdaugh made a statement that contradicted one made by his brother’s lawyer about the family.

“After six weeks of trial, they came away more convinced that he did not do this, and they are steadfastly in his camp and support him,” the lawyer, Jim Griffin, said during a press conference.

However, Randy Murdaugh told the newspaper his brother “knows more than what he’s saying.”

He added, “He’s not telling the truth, in my opinion, about everything there.”

According to Randy Murdaugh, the unknown has been the most difficult issue facing the family.

“The not knowing is the worst thing there is,” Randy Murdaugh said.

During the interview, he also reflected on Alex Murdaugh’s behavior following the murders.

“I spent considerable time, day after day for weeks on end, calling people,” Randy Murdaugh explained.

However, he said his brother did not do the same thing.

The Times noted Maggie’s sister testified at the trial that she found it odd Alex never discussed who might have committed the murders.

She did say Alex Murdaugh told her whoever did it must have “thought about it for a long time.”

Randy Murdaugh also commented on the difficult task of moving on from the trial.

“I hoped that after the trial, because there’s nothing more that can be presented, that I’d stop thinking about this,” he said. “But so far, that has not been the case.”

The jury delivered the guilty verdict last week less than three hours into the deliberation, IJR reported.

Alex Murdaugh was also charged with two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Outside the courthouse, Griffin said at the time, “Obviously we’re disappointed but until he’s sentenced we will have no further comment.”

Maggie and Paul were found dead on the family’s property in South Carolina on June 7, 2021.

Judge Clifton Newman left Alex Murdaugh with a haunting message as the trial came to a close.

“I know you have to see Paul and Maggie during the night times when you’re attempting to go to sleep. I’m sure they come and visit you,” Newman said.

Alex Murdaugh replied, “All day and every night.”
