President Donald Trump is receiving more backlash for his response to the coronavirus pandemic, and this time it is coming from his fellow Republicans.
An anti-Trump Republican group, Republican Voters Against Trump, released an ad titled “Trump is letting over 100,000 people die due to his incompetence.”
The ad features several Republicans voicing their concerns with Trump’s approach to the outbreak and their intention to vote for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
The opening of the ad shows Trump calling on his “people” to slow down testing.
Watch the ad below:
Trump’s comments are followed by several individuals who identify as Republican voters claiming he did not act quickly enough and his lack of action caused the death of many.
“He consistently called the coronavirus a hoax. He didn’t do anything until he was forced to take action,” one Republican said.
Another said Trump’s response “did a number on the economy.”
“He’s letting over 100,000 people die due to his incompetence,” one woman said.
Another woman pointed to the suggestion Trump made to inject light into the body in order to treat the coronavirus.
Others went on to reiterate Trump has mismanaged the situation citing the coronavirus death rate and reminding the audience the coronavirus pandemic is far from over.
The voters moved on to express their support for Biden.
As the ad came to a close, the group called on others to join them and vote against Trump.
Sarah Longwell, strategic director of the group, reiterated the group’s message in a statement.
“We are hearing from Republicans all across the country that no matter their view on his policy positions, they are disgusted by the president’s incompetent crisis management during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Longwell said.
She added, “The virus has spiralled out of control in America while our ostensible leader is live tweeting cable news from his bunker and refusing to listen to experts.”
