Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is on board with Former Vice President Joe Biden’s (D) promise to pick a female running mate.

“To have our first female vice president, and to have that be a woman of color is a significant milestone,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

Ocasio-Cortez explained there are several “talented” women of color among government leaders.

Check out her comments below:

She pointed to the significance of the policies and values the potential vice president pick would hold. Ocasio-Cortez did not single out one woman for the job but did express her belief there are enough out there to choose from.

“I don’t think we have a shortage of them, that’s for sure,” she said. “I would love that woman to be progressive as kind of a counterbalance politically.”

Ocasio-Cortez has not officially endorsed Biden but has been reportedly in touch with Biden’s campaign, as IJR previously reported.

She opened up about sexual assault allegations against Biden emphasizing the importance of having the conversation in the face of the 2020 presidential election.

Biden reportedly consulted with former President Barack Obama regarding his vice presidential pick.

He is set to appoint a committee to help him pick a running mate this month, as IJR previously reported.

Biden reported he will be considering between six and a dozen candidates.

According to those familiar to the process, the women he is considering for the pick include Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D), Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Rep. Val Demings (D-Fla.), and Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D).

Biden continues to add more endorsements to his list including, more recently, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).
