WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 15: U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) pauses while speaking during a press conference at the U.S. Capitol on July 15, 2019 in Washington, DC. President Donald Trump stepped up his attacks on four progressive Democratic congresswomen, saying if they're not happy in the United States "they can leave." (Photo by Alex Wroblewski/Getty Images)

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) was roasted by conservatives on Twitter after an image surfaced of her dining in Florida.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R) press secretary Christina Pushaw shared the image and wrote, “Florida is so dangerous [and] scary that AOC decided to go on vacation in Miami this week.”

“You know it’s a free state when even a Democrat can enjoy cocktails without being forced to show her papers or wear a mask,” she added.

Florida is so dangerous & scary that AOC decided to go on vacation in Miami this week 🌞 You know it’s a free state when even a Democrat can enjoy cocktails without being forced to show her papers or wear a mask 🐊

The “Team Ron DeSantis” Twitter account wrote, “Welcome to Florida, AOC! We hope you’re enjoying a taste of freedom here in the Sunshine State thanks to [DeSantis’] leadership.”

“P.S. We recommend the Rock Shrimp Roll and the Aoki Tai the next time you decide to dine in Miami. Cheers!” it added.

Cheers!

Conservatives were quick to react on social media:

Is @AOC on vacation in Florida while the #BronxIsBurning 😱😱😱

Somebody call @POTUS at his vacation home and sound the alarm! 😂 https://t.co/flL8wJY65L

Aww @AOC this is so cute 🥰

Did your martini taste a bit hypocritical?

Don’t you just love the freedom Republicans give you in Florida?

No masks or vaccine mandates.

No stifling communist policies you constantly legislate & vote for.

Cheers to freedom!#AOCLovesDeSantis pic.twitter.com/8iRnyLynhp

AOC is in south beach for her vacation lol. Prob not good to talk sh!% about Florida all year then vacation there…

— Rob Schmitt (@SchmittNYC) December 31, 2021

Florida is such a terrible state that AOC goes there on vacation to get away from New York.

— Tim Young (@TimRunsHisMouth) December 31, 2021

Where else would a New York City socialist go to escape her city during a massive surge in covid cases but Ron DeSantis’ Florida?https://t.co/SpfUQ7Xvw6

— Rich Lowry (@RichLowry) December 31, 2021

So now @AOC is vacationing in my great home state of Florida – interesting!

I guess she enjoys the freedom-loving utopia of Florida over her mandate-ridden New York!

Welcome to Florida, @AOC. Leave your politics in New York and enjoy a taste of freedom in our great state! pic.twitter.com/bjUqeeakpq

AOC will claim to stand up for the working class while hanging out at the Met Gala and vacationing in the free state of Florida to get away from the failed policies that her constituents live under. In Socialism, some are more equal than others. That pretty much sums up AOC.

— Mercedes Schlapp (@mercedesschlapp) December 31, 2021

AOC truly represents working class Americans while living above a Whole Foods, driving a Tesla, hanging out at the Met Gala, and vacationing in Florida to get away from the policies she supports that make life a lot harder for people.

The Congresswoman’s trip to the Sunshine State comes as both New York and Florida are experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 infections.

National Review’s Philip Klein recalled Ocasio-Cortez’s response to Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) trip to Cancun, Mexico, as a winter storm battered his state.

“Reminder that when Ted Cruz went to Cancun during Texas energy crisis, AOC blasted him for “abandon[ing] his constituents,” he wrote.

In February, Cruz was criticized for leaving his home state as thousands were without power following a winter storm.

Ocasio-Cortez commented at the time, “If Sen. Cruz had resigned back in January after helping gin up a violent insurrection that killed several people, he could’ve taken his vacation in peace. Texans should continue to demand his resignation.”

Ocasio-Cortez has called for Cruz to resign over what she says was his role in inciting the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

While conservatives mocked the New York Congresswoman, liberal commentator Matthew Yglesias argued, “The idea that it’s somehow hypocritical for someone to visit a state whose governor they disagree with about whatever is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.”
