Chaos erupted outside a storefront in Colombia when a young woman was forced to fight off an armed attacker while her traveling companion watched in fear — a moment now fueling intense online backlash.
According to the New York Post, the scene, captured on security footage obtained by NewsFlash, shows two backpackers talking casually near what appears to be a bank or currency exchange.
Their conversation ends abruptly when a man approaches them with what looks to be a knife and immediately targets the woman.
She resists, grappling with the assailant as he presses in close. Her companion steps forward for a brief second, but quickly ducks behind a wall, leaving her to fend for herself during the tense struggle.
For roughly fifteen seconds, the woman fights the attacker with no help from the man standing just feet away. Another bystander inches in as if to intervene, but then backs away, adding to the shock of viewers who later watched the footage online.
The stalemate ends when a passerby sprints into frame and slams the attacker with a motorcycle helmet. Three more good Samaritans rush in, taking the assailant to the ground and beating him until he’s subdued.
Even as the group overwhelms the would-be robber, the woman’s companion stays out of the fray. Once the danger has passed, however, he returns to her side, offering comfort despite having taken no part in the confrontation.
Very few details have been released about the incident, including when it occurred or whether the two backpackers knew one another before the encounter. The footage shows them chatting beforehand, but their relationship remains unclear.
Online, the reaction was swift and unforgiving. Many mocked the two bystanders — particularly the man who hid.
“White Knight Jimmy just stood there like a goofball and did nothing,” one user on X wrote.
“If that’s her man, she needs a new one,” another person commented on Reddit’s r/PublicFreakout page.
“Texas got rid of PornHub so that guy’s the biggest p—y I’ve seen in a while,” another user added.
Others praised the woman’s courage and the quick-thinking group that ultimately saved her.
“The [rescuer] helped give those gringos an unforgettable story,” one commenter wrote in Spanish on r/Colombia.
“I’m loving how it came together once half of the street showed up to collectively enforce the lack of tolerance for such horse s—,” another Reddit user said.
Social media is now split between celebrating the woman and her rescuers — and questioning the man who chose not to jump in.
