Barron Trump has declined to be an at-large delegate at the Republican National Convention.
His mother, former First Lady Melania Trump’s office made the announcement Friday.
“While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” the statement read, according to USA Today.
There were no other details as to why Barron Trump turned down the opportunity to be a delegate for Florida in a convention where his father, former President Donald Trump, is expected to become the Republican nominee for president.
It was just announced on Thursday that the younger Trump was picked by the Republican Party of Florida to be one of the 125-member delegation, which includes his half siblings — Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump.
The convention will be held July 15-18 in Milwaukee.
Barron Trump will graduate from high school Friday in Florida. His father was granted permission to attend by Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over Donald Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan.
