There was plenty of blame to go around as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) spoke at the No Kings rally in Washington, D.C., Saturday stating Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg have “hijacked” three U.S. economy under the leadership of President Donald Trump.

“But let us be clear, this moment is not just about one man’s greed, one man’s corruption or one man’s contempt for our Constitution,” Sanders said, per Mediaite. “This is about a handful of the wealthiest people on earth who, in their insatiable greed, have hijacked our economy and our political system in order to enrich themselves at the expense of working families throughout the country.”

Sanders then named names.

“Yes, I’m talking about Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and the other multi-billionaires who were sitting right behind Donald Trump when he was inaugurated — the very same billionaires who funded his campaign, who have bestowed gifts upon him, and who have seen huge increases in their wealth and power since Trump took office,” Sanders continued.

The outlet reported that the price of Meta’s stock has gone up 14.9% since Trump took office in January. Tesla’s stock has gone up 2.8%, but Amazon’s stock price has gone done 5.7% since Trump started his second presidency.

Should lawmakers address wealth concentration among billionaires like Musk and Bezos?

Sanders, however, did not note that more billionaires backed former Vice President Kamala Harris (D) when she ran against Trump in 2024.

Sanders cashed it “insanity” that Musk  owns “more wealth than the bottom 52% of American households.”

There has been no love lost between Musk and Sanders.

Sanders has vowed he was “not going to allow” Musk to become the first trillionaire.

Currently, Musk is worth $455 billion. His new pay package at Tesla could boost him to the $1 trillion mark, if he meets certain performance goals.
