President Joe Biden seemingly took a swipe at former President Donald Trump for what became a joke during his presidency, “Infrastructure Week.”
“And God willing, we’re not going to have 40 weeks of this is Infrastructure Week. Remember those?” Biden said while promoting his infrastructure plan in Illinois on Wednesday.

The president made similar comments in May while speaking to Ford workers, saying the Trump administration “announced infrastructure week, and they announced it announced it and announced it and announced it every week for four years and didn’t do a damn thing.”
He added, “They didn’t get the job done. Folks, the rest of the world is moving fast. They’re moving ahead. They’re not waiting for the United States of America.”
The New York Times noted in April 2020 the Trump administration’s “carefully laid plans for infrastructure-related events have repeatedly been thwarted or overshadowed by the scandal of the day, the phrase ‘Infrastructure Week’ has become something of a joke and a metaphor for any well-intentioned proposal doomed to go nowhere.”
The president also told the crowd in Illinois his infrastructure plan is “going to make the biggest investment in roads and bridges and the construction of the interstate highway system, literally creating millions of good paying jobs.”
He went on to make a case for the “second critical part” of his domestic agenda.
Biden explained, “It’s a combination of parts of my American jobs plan that were essential and not included in the bipartisan infrastructure plan, as well as my American families plan. In Washington, they call it a reconciliation bill.”
In June, Biden suggested he would not sign the infrastructure bill unless it came with a reconciliation package, later clarifying his remarks.
“My comments also created the impression that I was issuing a veto threat on the very plan I had just agreed to, which was certainly not my intent,” Biden said.
