Former Vice President Joe Biden (D) is accepting Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway’s challenge to lend a hand in the government’s coronavirus response.
According to Fox News, Biden said he would be willing to talk to President Donald Trump to offer his advice on the government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.
Conway blasted Biden earlier on Wednesday for criticizing Trump’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak without actually offering to help the administration, as IJR has previously reported.
“I guess I would ask Vice President Biden why he can’t call and lend a hand. Doesn’t he think he would actually do better by calling here and trying to help?”
Watch Conway’s comments below:
Biden’s deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield told Fox News that Biden has also been publicly offering advice to Trump, “Vice President Biden has been extending his advice for months, and he did so again on the air last night.”
“As he has said repeatedly, Donald Trump is not accountable for coronavirus itself — but he is accountable for the federal government’s slow and chaotic response to this outbreak,” she added.
While Conway said that Biden should be offering his support, she also suggested that he would not have too much advice to give, “But, really, what would he say? What would he have to say?”
Additionally, it’s unclear if Trump would want Biden’s advice. He has previously said he did not want to call his predecessor for advice because, “I don’t think I’m going to learn much.”
Biden’s offer comes as the latest data shows the U.S. has more than 200,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
