President-elect Joe Biden’s team announced who will perform during a celebrity-hosted prime-time television special for the night of his inauguration.
According to CBS News, the event will be hosted by Tom Hanks and will feature performances by Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake, Ant Clemons, and Jon Bon Jovi.
The program, “Celebrating America,” will air live on Jan. 20 from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, and MSNBC.
“The program will showcase the American people’s resilience, heroism, and unified commitment to coming together as a nation to heal and rebuild,” the description of the event reads.
It continues, “Through different segments and performances, the program will highlight the strength of our democracy, the perseverance of our people, and our ability to come together during trying times and emerge stronger than ever before.”
The program will also celebrate frontline workers, health care workers, teachers, and others who are making positive contributions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This inauguration presents a unique opportunity to spotlight the resilience and spirit of an America United. We have witnessed countless heroes this past year step up to the frontlines and serve their fellow Americans, so we are telling their stories, spreading their collective light, and celebrating the best of our country and its people with this prime-time program,” CEO of Biden’s presidential inaugural committee, Tony Allen, wrote in a statement.
He added, “Our first priority is safety — so while many of us will be watching safely from our homes, we are creating real moments of connection that highlight a new inclusive American era of leadership that works for and represents all Americans.”
Last month, the committee urged Americans to “be a part of this inauguration by watching from home, rather than traveling to Washington, D.C.,” as IJR previously reported.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned there could be armed protests leading up to the inauguration just one week after pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
