Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is praising Dr. Anthony Fauci for speaking out against President Donald Trump’s misleading campaign ad featuring the leading infectious disease expert.
Biden noted Fauci called Trump’s Supreme Court nomination ceremony for Judge Amy Coney Barrett a “superspreader event.”
He argued Trump is responding to Fauci’s remarks by running a national ad quoting him out of context.
Fauci said in March referring to the federal government’s response as a whole to the pandemic, “I can’t imagine … that anybody could be doing more.”
Biden explained the Trump campaign ad features Fauci and claims he was talking about the president when he made that statement.
“Fauci is a man of integrity. After that ad came out saying he said I did not give permission to use that quote, and I wasn’t referring to the president. Even when after Fauci said that he didn’t say that about the president, the Trump ad campaign said they were going to continue to use the ad knowing it was a lie,” Biden said.
He added, “Can any of you ever remember anything like that in a presidential campaign with a mainstream candidate?”

During an appearance on CNN on Monday, Fauci addressed the news he would be featured in the new Trump campaign ad, as IJR previously reported.
“You know that would be terrible. I mean, that would be outrageous if they do that. In fact, that might actually come back to backfire on them. I hope they don’t do that,” Fauci said.
He also criticized the Trump campaign for taking his comments about the government’s response to the pandemic out of context.
“To take a completely out of context statement, and put it in which is obviously a political campaign ad, I thought was really disappointing,” he said.
Trump fired back at Fauci on Twitter Tuesday morning, as IJR previously reported.
“Actually, Tony’s pitching arm is far more accurate than his prognostications,” Trump said.
