Boebert on $200 Billion Pentagon Ask: ‘I am a No’

WASHINGTON, DC - SEPTEMBER 13: Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) arrives to a Republican caucus meeting at the U.S. Capitol Building on September 13, 2023 in Washington, DC. Congressional Republicans met for the first time since their return from August Recess with several items to discuss including U.S. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy's announcement of the start of an impeachment inquiry against U.S. President Joe Biden and government funding legislation. At least one Republican lawmaker has signaled she is poised to vote no supplemental funding bill to pay for the Iran war.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) said her answer is no to any funding bill regardless the price tag.

The Department of Defense is seeking $200 billion in supplemental funds to keep paying for Operation Epic Fury, which President Donald Trump launched on Feb 28.

The war is costing American taxpayers about $1 billion a day, as well as hurting their wallets at the gas pump as oil prices soar.

“I will not vote for a war supplemental,” she told CNN’s Manu Raju Thursday. “No. I am a no. I’ve already told leadership. I am a no on any war supplementals. I am so tired of spending money elsewhere. I am tired of the industrial-war complex getting all of our hard-earned tax dollars. I have folks in Colorado who can’t afford to live. We need America First policies right now, and that? I’m not doing that.”

Later on Thursday, Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) had people scratching their heads when he said Iran should foot the bill.

“I would actually like to see Iran pay for this, whether it’s $20 billion or $200 billion, whatever it is,” Perry said.

He later said the money from Iran would have to be paid out by a future regime that is more amicable to the U.S.

"Well, I think we have got to pay for this somehow, right? We don't have endless money."

Some prominent Democrats have not ruled out voting in favor of the supplemental funding.
