Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre explained on “The Sage Steele Show” on Wednesday why he chose to publicly back President Donald Trump ahead of the November election.

Favre spoke at an Oct. 30 Trump rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to express his support for the then-candidate. The Hall of Famer said on the podcast that his political views are guided by “common sense,” a trait Trump often touts. “Just think about it from a common sense perspective,” Favre told host Sage Steele. “Some of the things that you’re actually on the left that you’re saying is normal — I mean, do you not ever like look in the mirror when no one’s looking and it’s just you and you go, ‘Are we out of our damn mind?’”

He said he believed conservatives are often passive, while the left is loud, which motivated him to speak out.

“If we don’t start taking a stand, we’re going to get dominated … I thought about, like the rally in Green Bay when he asked if I would come talk … I weighed the pros and cons. And I really thought, Sage, that I don’t know if I’m going to influence it,” he said. “I mean, at this point, look, there’s been a hard line drawn in the sand … And that very well may be true. But I thought about ‘If you persuaded five voters, and that, who knows, it may be a five-vote difference, then I would be beside myself if I didn’t take advantage of that.’”

“It wasn’t my cup of tea. I’m not a public speaker. I’m certainly not a political public speaker. But it was an honor that I was asked,” he added. “And do I agree with everything President Trump says or does? No … But from a common sense perspective, do you really think boys should compete in girls’ sports? And that’s fair? No. And the illegal [immigration], the crime, and things that is because of it — how can you think that’s okay? I mean, I’m all for doing the right thing for people, but we have to protect our own first.”

Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia similarly explained on “The Katie Miller Podcast” Monday that he left the Democratic Party because of the border crisis under former President Joe Biden.

Biden oversaw the highest level of net migration in American history, according to The New York Times’ analysis of government data in December 2024.

Border Patrol agents released zero migrants into the interior of the United States in July for a third straight month, according to an August press release from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). During Biden’s term, tens of thousands of illegal migrants were released per month.

Moreover, former Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Terry McAuliffe said on “The Chris Cuomo Project” in May that the Democratic Party had “lost” its “common sense” brand to Trump.

“He is a great salesman, and he talks common sense, and he says the stuff that people like to hear … Common sense used to be who our party was, and we’ve sort of lost it,” McAuliffe said. “We got caught up with all of these other issues that mattered to so few people and we’ve lost our broad array.
