Sylvester Stallone, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Hart, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian are among the celebrities that have been accused of violating water restrictions as California struggles with a drought.
The Los Angeles Times reported that they are among the biggest names when it comes to water waste, citing documents obtained by the outlet.
The Las Virgenes Municipal Water District reportedly issued “notices of exceedance” to more than 2,000 customers, including these celebrities.
The Times explained that the notices mean the customers had surpassed 150% of their monthly water budgets at least four times since a drought emergency was declared at the end of 2021.
Notices state that “customers are expected to adhere to the water use reductions and water conservation measures that are in place due to this emergency.”
Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union, claim the excess use of water at their home is due to an issue with their pool.
“We have been doing everything we can to rectify the situation and will continue to go to extensive lengths to resolve the issue,” the couple said in a statement, as the Times reported.
They added, “We have replaced all parts of our pool system that [have] to do with water flow and leakage in addition to converting to synthetic grass and drought tolerant plants to reduce our water usage. We will continue to work with the city and the water distribution company to make sure this isn’t an issue moving forward.”
In a statement provided to The Times, Stallone’s attorney Marty Singer addressed the water usage at the actor’s property.
“They have more than 500 mature trees on the property, including innumerable fruit trees as well as pine trees,” Singer said in the statement.
He continued, “Absent adequate watering, in all likelihood they would die. That could result in dead or damaged trees falling on my client’s property or neighboring properties.”
Stallone and his wife have reportedly “been addressing the situation responsibly and proactively.”
Kim and Kourtney Kardashian have also received notices.
Kim Kardashian’s Hidden Hills home and its adjacent lot reportedly exceeded the budget and Kim Kardashian’s property in nearby Calabasas did the same.
Additionally, the Times pointed out that homes of attorneys, doctors and Hollywood executives have also received notices.
