Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) blasted former President Donald Trump in a speech ahead of a vote to oust her from leadership.
During a House floor speech on Tuesday evening, Cheney took aim at Trump for pushing his unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election, believing his words ultimately led to the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6.
“We face a threat America has never seen before. A former president who provoked a violent attack on this Capitol in an effort to steal the election has resumed his aggressive effort to convince Americans that the election was stolen from him,” Cheney said.
She continued, “He risks inciting further violence. Millions of Americans have been misled by the former president. They have heard only his words, but not the truth, as he continues to undermine our democratic process, sowing seeds of doubt about whether democracy really works at all.”

Cheney argued the “most conservative of conservative principles” is “reverence for the rule of law.”
She went on to cite examples of how Trump’s claims were rejected by courts, including judges Trump appointed, as well as the Department of Justice.
“Those who refuse to accept the rulings of our courts are at war with the Constitution,” Cheney added.
She warned, “Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar. I will not participate in that. I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president’s crusade to undermine our democracy.”
House Republicans are expected to oust Cheney from leadership on Wednesday.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) confirmed on Monday he supports the effort to replace Cheney with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), as IJR reported.
