President Donald Trump‘s presidential re-election campaign still owes the City of El Paso, Texas, more than half a million dollars. And El Paso Mayor Dee Margo said this week that the city is considering suing the Trump campaign over unpaid debts.

During the Tuesday virtual press conference, a reporter asked if the city has reached out to the Trump campaign to pay the roughly $570,000 debt.

Mayor Margo said, “I know we’ve sent a demand letter for that. And my last instructions to our people were: If we need to, file suit.”

Communications Director Laura Cruz-Acosta added, “The campaign has not paid as of yet, we have sent invoices to the campaign. The last invoice was sent out in February and we would need council action in order to be directed to file suit.”

Margo continued, “Then we probably need to progress that way.”

El Paso TV station KFOX 14 reported that the Trump campaign owes the city $569,204.63 for a rally held at the El Paso Coliseum in February of 2019.

KFOX also reported that the city sent a bill for $470,417 to the Trump campaign to cover essential employees like firefighters and police. When the campaign welched on their debt, the city added a late fee. None of that money has come in yet.

The Trump campaign has a long trail of unpaid bills. In October of 2019, the Washington Post reported that the president’s campaign owed over a million dollars to American cities where he has held rallies.

Both President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden stopped holding rallies as the coronavirus pandemic gripped the United States.

But, while debts are carried and they may be facing legal action, Trump’s campaign said that they had $102.7 million on hand at the start of 2020.
