Some conservatives are attacking Vice President Kamala Harris as a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hire to attack her candidacy.
Conservative CNN contributor Scott Jennings is not saying Harris was chosen simply because of her race but is arguing it’s President Joe Biden’s fault she is being branded with that label.
“I believe Kamala Harris is qualified to be the president,” Jennings said when asked if her resume is that of a “DEI hire.”
He explained:
“She has been the vice president. She was an elected official in California. She served in the United States Senate. So, I believe she’s qualified.”

However, Jennings added, “I do think some of this dates back to Joe Biden himself. I mean, remember, when he was picking a vice president back in 2020 if he didn’t promise, he heavily implied publicly that his principle criteria for choosing a running mate were gender and then race. And he got a lot of pressure from Democrats to do that. And I think he unfairly stuck her with that.”
Still, he argued Republicans should not attack her with the “DEI hire label.”
Instead, Jennings argued they should attack her for the “crazy things” she said during her failed bid for president in the 2020 Democratic primary and supporting Biden’s agenda.
“You don’t have to go down this road. You can say someone’s qualified. And can also say and the reason she was chosen — really — is because she was a super liberal who has crazy liberal ideas that have led the country off into a ditch, that’s the right way to attack her,” Jennings added.
