New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is supportive of individual freedom, but when it comes to the lives of other Americans, he has a strong opinion.

Late-night talk show host Seth Meyers asked Cuomo if he shares his opinion when he sees someone not wearing a mask or practicing safe social distancing.

Cuomo expressed he feels “strongly” about masks.

“I think it’s disrespectful for people not to wear a mask,” Cuomo said.

He added, “Everybody sees all these TV commercials now, we applaud our nurses, our doctors, our heroes. Okay, then wear a mask, right? Then don’t infect anyone else. Then make their life easier.”

Cuomo took his point a step further by applying it to himself and his family.

“You don’t have a right to infect me. You don’t have a right to infect my daughter. So wear a mask,” Cuomo said. “It’s not that big of a deal.”

Cuomo went on to say he is confident New York has flattened the curve, but the state needs to continue in its efforts to sustain the progress it has made.

“We did what we needed to do. We just have to be disciplined and stay with it,” Cuomo said.

New York has seen the most confirmed coronavirus cases out of any state across the nation. There are nearly 346,000 positive coronavirus cases and more than 27,000 deaths in the state, as of Thursday morning.

Cuomo announced Monday some areas outside of New York City are ready to reopen by the end of this week, as IJR previously reported.

The Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, and Southern Tier regions in central and western New York meet the criteria to reopen in regards to hospitalizations and testing for the coronavirus.

According to Cuomo, certain businesses and recreational activities could also open on May 15 when the stay-at-home order is set to expire.
