New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is letting Americans know COVID-19 is not the only virus they are battling.
“We are being attacked by other viruses. COVID weakened our immune system, and when your immune system is weakened, then you get attacked by other viruses. We’re being attacked by multiple viruses at the same time, and we must fight them all,” Cuomo said.
He went on to take an apparent shot at President Donald Trump, “Because racism is a virus and sexism is a virus and discrimination is a virus and injustice is a virus and division is a virus and distrust is a virus and abuse of power is a virus and hatred is a virus.”
“And our America is better than this. Our America is strong enough to admit her mistakes and to grow from them,” he added.

Cuomo’s comments come just days after he slammed Trump for threatening to keep a COVID-19 vaccine from New York until the governor authorizes the distribution, as IJR previously reported.
“[Cuomo] doesn’t trust where the vaccine is coming from,” Trump said while delivering remarks from the Rose Garden Friday.
“These are coming from the greatest companies anywhere in the world, greatest labs in the world, but he doesn’t trust the fact that it’s this White House, this administration, so we won’t be delivering it to New York until we have authorization to do so, and that pains me to say that.”
He continued, “Gov. Cuomo will have to let us know when he’s ready for it. Otherwise, we can’t be delivering it to a state that won’t be giving it to its people.”
Cuomo responded to Trump on CNN.
“He tries to bully people. He tries to bully governors, he uses government as a retaliatory tool… I’m not going to let a bully push New Yorkers around, period,” Cuomo said.
Pfizer announced on Monday data from its trial showed its vaccine is more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19.
