Actor Robert de Niro has not been shy in sharing how he feels about President Donald Trump, and he is continuing to express that distaste.
Asked during an interview on MSNBC’s “The Beat With Ari Melber” about his reaction to the 2020 presidential election, de Niro said he was “very, very relieved.”
“It’s like being in an abusive relationship, we don’t know what’s going on from one day to the next, I don’t think he knows what’s going on,” de Niro blasted Trump, before celebrating President-elect Joe Biden winning the election, “Thank God, that’s all.”
De Niro speculated that he does not believe Trump will leave the office “gracefully,” adding, “There will be other people like him in the future, maybe not in my lifetime.”

The actor later suggested that Trump’s behavior is like “wannabe dictators,” saying, “It’s the same playbook as Mussolini, as Hitler.”
De Niro continued, “It’s what they’re going to do for the people, make Germany great again, make Italy great again, make America great again. It’s all appealing to the worst prejudices, the worst weaknesses of the public and instead of leading them and guiding them and being someone that they can look up to.”
“And when the public is not right, you have to be [there] to do the right thing and set an example for them,” he added. “And if you don’t, then we’re going to be where we are today.”
The actor then said, “Thank God we’re out of this. We’re going to be in other things but with Biden… he’s going to bring us into calm waters.”
