Georgia State Rep. Vernon Jones (D) took to the podium during the Republican National Convention on Monday night to criticize Democrats for their reaction to his announcement he is supporting President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election.
Jones revealed during his speech he received more than just disagreement from Democrats for his endorsement of the president.
“When I made the public announcement of my support for President Trump, all hell broke loose. I was threatened, called an embarrassment, and asked to resign by my own party,” Jones said.
He added, “Unfortunately, that’s consistent with the Democratic Party and how they view independent thinking Black men and women.”

He claimed “Black voices are becoming more woke and louder than ever.”
Jones went on to accuse the Democratic Party of becoming “infected” with a “pandemic of intolerance, bigotry, socialism, anti law enforcement bias, and a dangerous tolerance for people who attack others, destroy their property, and terrorize our own communities.”
He was not the only person of color to defend his support of the president.
Former NFL player Herschel Walker praised Trump for who he is as a person and dismissed claims he is racist.
He claimed he has known Trump for 37 years and during their relationship he taught Walker “family” should be his top priority.
Walker explained he planned to take Trump’s kids with his family to Disney World and at the last minute Trump joined them.
He said it was an example of how Trump is a “caring, loving, father.”

Walker made it clear the worst name he has heard people call Trump is “racist.”
“I take it as a personal insult that people would think that I’ve had a 37-year friendship with a racist,” Walker said.
He added, “People who think that don’t know what they’re talking about. Growing up in the deep south, I’ve seen racism up close. I know what it is and it isn’t Donald Trump.”
