House Democrats are hoping to honor House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) with a new title and room named after her.

House Administration Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) introduced a resolution on Tuesday, stating, “That the caucus room in the Cannon House Office Building (room 390) is designated as the ‘Speaker Nancy Pelosi Caucus Room.'”

Thems the rule: This vote will see the House formally rename a room in Cannon the "Speaker Nancy Pelosi Caucus Room."

Lofgren issued a statement, saying Pelosi “has been a singular force for good throughout her 35 years in the House of Representatives. She has dedicated her life to the dignity of the American people, to the defense of our Democracy, and always foremost – to the children and the posterity of our Nation.”

The statement continues, “Her achievements are unparalleled in the halls of Congress – from securing historic investments in clean energy and climate action, rescuing the economy during the Great Recession, guaranteeing heath care to every American as a right, to building a better, more sustainable, and inclusive future – she has ably guided the nation with grace and determination.”

Additionally, lawmakers on the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee unanimously voted on Tuesday to give Pelosi the title of “Speaker Emerita.”

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) tweeted, “It was an honor as Co-Chair of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee to confer upon [Speaker Pelosi] the honorific title of Speaker Emerita. She is the most consequential legislator Congress has ever known and we are lucky she will remain in our ranks.”

Pelosi announced earlier this month she would continue to serve in the House but would not stay in her leadership position, as IJR reported.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is reportedly expected to succeed Pelosi as the top House Democrat.

Jeffries hopes to “lead an effort that centers our communication strategy around the messaging principle that values unite, issues divide.”

He declared “more must be done to combat inflation, defend our democracy, secure reproductive freedom, welcome new Americans, promote equal protection under the law and improve public safety throughout this country.”
