Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is calling for a member of the so-called “Squad” to be kicked out of the United States.
On Tuesday, DeSantis shared a video of a speech delivered by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) in which she was accused of vowing to put Somalia’s interests before those of the United States.
“Expel from Congress, denaturalize and deport!” DeSantis wrote.

In one version of the translation of the speech, Omar appeared to vow to use her position in Congress to prevent the breakaway Republic of Somaliland from reaching a deal with Ethiopia to have sea access.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) called the comments “Somalia first” and said she should “resign in disgrace.”
Ilhan Omar’s appalling, Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve and a direct violation of her oath of office. She should resign in disgrace.https://t.co/O3lAEGlokt

For her part, Omar has insisted the translation of her speech was “slanted.”
“It’s not only slanted but completely off, but I wouldn’t expect more from these propagandists. I pray for them and for their sanity,” Omar wrote in a post on X.

She continued, “No nation state can survive if its states start to get involved in land lease negotiations with other countries without the consent of the federal government. Somalis in Somalia and in the diaspora are united in that effort and I stand in solidarity with them.”
“No amount of harassment and lies will ever change that,” Omar concluded.
