DeSantis Shoots Down Call to Withdraw From Colorado Primary if Trump Is Left off the Ballot

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is signaling he plans to appear on Colorado’s Republican presidential primary ballot with or without former President Donald Trump.

After Colorado’s Supreme Court ruled Trump is ineligible to hold office again, 2024 Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy vowed to withdraw his name from the state’s primary if the front-runner is left off the ballot. He then challenged other Republican hopefuls to do the same.

During an interview on Newsmax, DeSantis was asked about Ramaswamy’s pledge and if he would do the same thing.

“No, I think that’s just playing into the Left,” DeSantis responded.

He continued, “I think the case will get overturned by the Supreme Court. But, I qualified for all the ballots, I’m competing in all the states, and I’m going to accumulate the delegates necessary. That’s the whole name of the game in this situation. But I do anticipate that that decision was political and will get reversed.”

Two things can be true at the same time here. This Colorado ruling is absolutely idiotic, flaming-hot garbage, and it should be thrown out quickly.

And other candidates can still run in the race even if it is not thrown out.

There is not a political requirement that candidates must handicap their own campaigns because another candidate’s behavior puts him in a position to have his opponents take extraordinary measures to stop him.

Ramaswamy is just back to his utterly bizarre and debasing boot-licking routine of acting like the only wrong Trump can do is not be “conservative” enough, and that he is some great figure everyone must pay obeisance to.

The fact of the matter is, this ruling is utterly wrong and it threatens to undermine whatever faith Americans have in an independent judiciary and our election system.

And Trump should have just accepted his 2020 loss instead of acting like a raging lunatic and — in the face of a lack of evidence — claiming the election was stolen, thus inspiring whackos to storm the Capitol.

But he didn’t and now he is suffering the consequences of his actions. Yet, politics ain’t beanbag, and this isn’t some natural disaster, there’s no reason for the other candidates who presumably want to win the primary to hurt themselves to make him feel better.
