He posted the clip to Instagram stating, “Before I even start singing to my mom her special Happy Birthday song, she starts to cry.”
Johnson’s mother played ukulele in the video, and Johnson told her, “Don’t start crying. You’re crying. She’s still crying.”
She then looked up at him and said, “I want to sing. Do you know how to sing in tune?”
“I sing in keys that don’t exist,” he joked.
Johnson then started singing his rendition of Neil Sedaka’s 1960’s hit, “Happy Birthday, Sweet Sixteen.” When getting to the lyric about turning 16, he stopped and said, “Plus…16… I’m terrible at math.”
They laughed, and he was told to add 59 to get to 75. Johnson then placed a lei around his mother’s neck, gave her a hug, and said, “Happy birthday.”
His mom smiled and said, “Thank you, son. I love you.”
She also noted, “You grew up under my very own eyes too. I think you are 10.”
He joked, “I still am 10. Happy birthday.”
Johnson also wrote in his post, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!
75 years of experience, wisdom, hard times, good times, laughter, mana, and yet thru it all — you TRULY have the KINDEST HEART I have ever known.”
“I feel like the luckiest son on earth,” he added.
According to People Magazine, Johnson has a history of posting about his mother and praising her. Earlier this year, he posted when she was in a serious car accident.
He stated, “This woman has survived lung cancer, tough marriage, head on collision with a drunk driver. She’s a survivor, in ways that make angels and miracles real.”
Then, for Mother’s Day, he also shared a video of him and his mother dancing to the classic Louis Armstrong song, “What a Wonderful World.”
He captioned it, “I always say, if we got a good, loving mom, then we got a shot at growing up to become a decent human being. I got lucky, my mom is one of the good ones.”
