Eleven Israeli hostages were released by Hamas on Monday as a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was extended two days.

Two women and nine children, who had been held in captivity since Hamas launched an attack on Israel on Oct. 7, leaving more than 1,400 Israelis dead and more than 200 people taken as hostages, were released.

In exchange for the release of the hostages, Israel was reported to have released 33 Palestinians held as prisoners.

On the fourth day of a cease-fire, Hamas has released 11 more hostages – nine children and two women – from Gaza. In exchange, Israel is releasing 33 Palestinian prisoners. @MattGutmanABC reports as both sides agree to extend the pause for two more days. https://t.co/ay6I9cEMLS pic.twitter.com/ZujgKkExi8

The release of the hostages came as an initial truce in fighting for four days as part of a hostage deal was extended on Monday.

On Friday, as the ceasefire agreement began, a group of 13 Israelis and 12 Thai nationals were released by Hamas. In exchange for their release, Israel released 39 Palestinian prisoners, including 24 women and 15 teenage boys.

A group of 13 Israelis, including Emily Hand, 9, and Hila Rotem, 13, and four Thai nationals were released by Hamas on Saturday. The following day, a third group of 17 hostages, including 14 Israelis and the first American citizen, were released.

Prior to the truce agreement, Hamas had released two elderly Israeli women, Yocheved Lifshitz, 85, and her neighbor, Nurit Cooper, 79, along with two Americans, Judith Ranaan, 59, and her 17-year-old daughter, Natalie.
