Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk will be receiving a briefing Friday on top-secret military plans for China, per a report.
According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. officials have said Musk will be privy to the U.S. military’s plan if war broke out with China, one of the U.S.’ biggest adversaries, according to an initial report from The New York Times.
The WSJ further reported that there are concerns around Musk’s access and business interests intermingling, such as his ownership of Tesla that relies on China for battery production, and his role as a U.S. defense contractor through SpaceX.
According to a person familiar with the situation, the billionaire mogul is receiving the brief because he asked for it, and although Musk has security clearance, his official role has not been known to include being a military adviser to President Donald Trump, the WSJ reported.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly confirmed Musk’s visit to the Pentagon on Friday. However, Hegseth denied that Musk would be discussing war plans on China, a sentiment that was backed by Trump.
Trump took to Truth Social to deny the claims and called them “fake news” while noting that Musk will in no way be briefed on a potential war with China.
“The Fake News is at it again, this time the Failing New York Times,” Trump said. “They said, incorrectly, that Elon Musk is going to the Pentagon tomorrow to be briefed on any potential ‘war with China.’ How ridiculous?” China will not even be mentioned or discussed. How disgraceful it is that the discredited media can make up such lies. Anyway, the story is completely untrue!!!”
