Indianapolis Archdiocese Suspends Mass Obligation Amid ICE Fears

Amid a spike in ICE enforcement in Indiana, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis issued a decree dispensing Catholics in central and southern Indiana from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation through September 30 to address fears of detention and family separation. The measure, grounded in canon law and supported by local pastors, urges spiritual substitutes and pastoral care, aligning with broader nationwide diocesan responses to ICE activity.
