South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) is suspected of engaging in misconduct, according to an ethics board.

On Tuesday, The Associated Press reported that an ethics board in South Dakota claimed it has sufficient information showing Noem could have “engaged in misconduct” when she became involved with her daughter’s application for a real estate appraiser license.

The outlet noted that three retired judges on the Government Accountability Board declared “appropriate action” could be taken against Noem for her role in her daughter’s application.

Noem is reportedly facing allegations of “misconduct” related to “conflicts of interest” and “malfeasance.”

The board voted unanimously to give Noem a chance to defend herself, as The Associated Press reported.

Additionally, the board will release the complaint over the license after some sections have been redacted.

In September 2021, The Associated Press reported just days before an agency moved to deny her daughter’s application, Noem called to her office the state employee in charge of the agency, the woman’s direct supervisor and the state labor secretary.

Noem’s daughter was also reportedly in attendance.

Four months after the meeting, her daughter obtained the certification.

Spokesman Ian Fury said in a statement that the outlet “is disparaging the Governor’s daughter in order to attack the Governor politically – no wonder Americans’ trust in the media is at an all-time low.”

Just two months after the report, Noem formally announced her 2022 reelection bid.

“Together we’re setting an example for the nation,” Noem said.

In case you missed it:

She added, “And we’ll ensure that the next generation of South Dakotans can grow up happy and free.”

Last month, CBS News reported that Noem is not ruling out a run for the White House in 2024 unless the former president enters the race.

“I think he’s gonna run. And if President Trump runs, I’ll support him,” Noem said.
