WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 23: U.S. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) walks toward the Senate Chambers on March 23, 2024 in Washington, DC. The House of Representatives passed a $1.2 trillion spending bill to fund the government through September and avert a partial shutdown. The legislation will now go to the Senate for consideration. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is issuing an apology for a comparison he made regarding the House of Representatives.

On Thursday night, Americans were aghast after watching a drama filled hearing of the House Oversight Committee which featured several minutes of members lobbing personal insults at each other.

In a post on X, Fetterman shared a CNN article about the moment and wrote, “In the past, I’ve described the U.S. House as The Jerry Springer Show.”

“Today, I’m apologizing to The Jerry Springer Show,” he added.

During the hearing on Thursday, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) asked Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) if she knew what the hearing was about.

“I don’t think you know what you’re here for,” the Georgia congresswoman responded. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up…”

The hearing then exploded with members talking over each other as ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) chimed in, “That’s beneath either of you.”

The exchange led to a several minute battle over whether Greene would strike her words from the record.

Later, Crockett addressed the House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and asked, “I’m just curious, just to better understand your ruling, if someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde, bad built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

Comer asked, “A what now?… I have no idea what you just said.”

Greene later reacted to the backlash by taking aim at Democrats and Congress, writing on X, “Pardon me if I don’t talk as nicely as some people would like to hear. I’m not going to keep you all addicted to outrage and hopium that never solves a problem or stops the inevitable implosion of the United States of America.”

Ocasio-Cortez, who also engaged in the drama, fired back at Fetterman, writing, “I understand you likely would not have stood up for your colleague and seem to be confused about racism and misogyny being a “both sides” issue. But I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one.”

I understand you likely would not have stood up for your colleague and seem to be confused about racism and misogyny being a “both sides” issue.

But I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one.

And to the women of Pennsylvania: I’d stand up for you too.

Enjoy your Friday. https://t.co/cInF4YXO2y
