A former Republican governor of Michigan is making it clear who he is not voting for in the upcoming 2020 presidential election.

Rick Snyder, who served as the governor from 2011 to 2019, declared, “I am a Republican vote for Biden,” in an op-ed published in USA Today on Thursday.

After noting he supported now-Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) in 2012, Snyder wrote, “I will continue to support and stand up for Republican policies and values, and support Republican candidates, but I will not support Donald Trump for reelection.”

Recalling President Donald Trump’s inauguration, the former governor noted that he thought the president’s first speech was “directed at how he would help the people who supported him,” instead of all Americans, and, “sadly, that is how President Trump continues to govern.”

“Furthermore, President Trump’s answer to people who oppose or disagree with them is to be verbally abusive. In other words, he is a bully.”

He added, “Being strong is standing up for your convictions. Being a bully is trying to intimidate those who are perceived to be weaker or a threat.”

Snyder continued blasting the president as he said Trump “lacks a moral compass” and “ignores the truth.”

Recalling his previous conversations with then-vice president Joe Biden, Snyder said that he saw in Biden a “desire to heal a deeply divided nation.”

In concluding, he wrote, “While I am endorsing Joe Biden for president, I am still a Republican who also will be publicly supporting Republican candidates at the local, state and federal level.”

According to FiveThirtyEight, national polls currently show Biden in the lead ahead of the upcoming election.
