Fox Business anchor Dagen McDowell took a swipe at Stephen Colbert in response to his joke about gas prices.
“Today the average gas price in America hit an all-time record high over $4 per gallon. Ok, that stings, but a clean conscience is worth a buck or two,” Colbert said on his show Monday.
He added, “I’m willing to pay $4 dollars a gallon. Hell, I’ll pay $15 a gallon because I drive a Tesla.”
Maria Bartiromo mentioned criticism Colbert has received for his “flippant remarks about sky high gasoline prices.”
She went on to read a tweet from Meghan McCain, saying, “Two things can be true at the same time: 1. We shouldn’t be getting oil from Russia. 2. 65% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and are suffering from rising gas prices – and can’t afford a nice dinner out let alone to buy an electric car. Buying a new car isn’t an option.”
When asked for her reaction, McDowell said, “I love Meghan. She’s my friend and she is fierce, all day long, every day. Stephen Colbert, on the other hand, his brand is unfunny, pompous, elitist a**. So at least he’s staying on that brand.”
Fox News political analyst Gianno Caldwell chimed in, saying, “Leave it to a limousine liberal to tell you how to feel, what to think.”

President Joe Biden acknowledged gas prices are “going to go up,” adding, “Can’t do much right now. Russia is responsible.”
The Washington Post reported 71% of Americans support a ban on Russian oil even if it means paying more at the pump, citing a Quinnipiac University survey released Monday.
“This is a step that we’re taking to inflict further pain on Putin, but there will be costs as well here in the United States,” Biden said.
