PresidentĀ Donald Trump is hopeful that the economy and country will reopen by Easter, some agree with him for the most part.

Former House SpeakerĀ Newt Gingrich, currently isolated in Italy, appeared on “The View” on Thursday to discuss the coronavirus stimulus package, state of the economy, and Trump’s timeline for getting things back to normal.

Co-host Sunny Hostin brought up concerns some lawmakers have with the $2 trillion legislation that just passed in the Senate.

Gingrich responded to the concern some Republicans have with unemployment benefits included in the bill as some suggest it may lead to Americans not working.

He pointed out that there are going to be some things that still need fixing but overall, the decision to pass the bill was a good one.

“They did the right thing to pass it,” Gingrich said, adding, “The country needs to have a feel that we as a country can move, that we can get things done.”

The program shifted to discussing Trump’s hope for getting things back to the way they were.

Trump explained his reasoning behind opening the country back up by Easter during a Fox News town hall, as IJR previously reported.

ā€œI would love to have that, it’s such an important day for other reasons but I’ll make it an important day for this too. I would love to have the country opened up and just rearing to go by Easter,” Trump said.

Hostin asked Gingrich if this was realistic.

“I think the president’s direction is right, but probably the speed won’t happen as fast as he wants,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich went on to explain that it is important to isolate those with the coronavirus and continue to test for new cases.

The coronavirus death toll in the United States has topped 1,000 as IJR previously reported.
