It is not every day a senator from one side of the aisle says he likes one from the other side. And calls him a “total banger.”
But that’s is just what Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) did Monday when talking about Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.)
Kennedy called his colleague a “maverick” for being a nonconformist in national politics.
“He plays outside the pocket. He just doesn’t give a damn who’s mad at him,” Kennedy said on “The Will Cain Show.”
“If you ask him, ‘Fetterman, how do you sleep at night knowing that there are people out there that hate you?’ He’s likely to say something like, ‘With the fan on.’ He just doesn’t care, and I find that refreshing.”
Kennedy went on to call Fetterman a “total banger.” He said that even though the two do not agree on policy and vote differently, he likes Fetterman’s candor.
Watch:
Fetterman has become known for his independent streak and at times breaks with his party.
He has backed Israel, took tougher stances on illegal immigration and voted in favor of reopening the government in the fall.
Kennedy went on “The Sunday Briefing” over the weekend and spoke of Fetterman’s unconventional wardrobe in the Senate.
“He is what cool looks like because he dresses like Adam Sandler,” Kennedy said.
The House is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a measure that could end the partial shutdown and restore funding to key federal agencies.
