Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker was asked for his reaction to an attack from a MSNBC guest.
MSNBC guest Elie Mystal made the comments during a program on the network over the weekend.
“Now, you ask why are Republicans backing this man who is so clearly unintelligent, who so clearly doesn’t have independent thoughts, but that’s actually the reason,” Mystal said.
He added, “Walker’s going to do what he’s told, and that’s what Republicans like. That’s what Republicans want from their Negroes — to do what they’re told.”

Walker took to Twitter to respond to the remarks, captioning the post, “My response to [MSNBC] and the man who called me the N word.”
During the video, Walker explained, “You know, a lot of people have been asking me to say something about the man on MSNBC that called me the N-word. Here’s what I gotta say about that. Shame on MSNBC, and shame on him. I’m going to pray for both of them — because they need Jesus.”
He continued, “When I saw what he said, it reminded me of the differences between myself and my opponents, Sen. [Raphael] Warnock and the left-wing crazies that think America is fundamentally a bad country, full of racist people.”

He suggested that they “want to divide us, turn us against each other. We have our problems, but we can solve them together.”
Walker added, “You know, this is a good country full of good people. With God’s help, we’re going to bring the people of Georgia back together. Let’s make this a great day. God bless.”
Mystal later responded to Walker’s video on Twitter.
“I of course did not call [Herschel Walker] ‘the N word,'” Mystal tweeted.
He continued, “But, once again, you see the play here. He’s trying to appeal to conservative whites who believe ‘all black people use the n-word, why can’t I?’ He’s trying to validate their racial hangups, and play a vicitm.”

According to a survey conducted for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution by the University of Georgia School of Public and International Affairs, Warnock is ahead of Walker 46% to 43%.
The poll was conducted July 14-22 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
