Graham: ‘The Not Guilty Vote Growing’ and GOP Senators Find Dem Arguments ‘Offensive and Absurd’

While some Republican senators say the House impeachment managers’ arguments have been “damning,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is claiming their remarks have been “offensive” and not persuasive.

During an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” on Wednesday evening, Graham said, “The not-guilty vote is growing after today. I think most Republicans found the presentation by the House managers offensive and absurd.”

He went on to describe the riot at the Capitol as “terrible” and that he hopes the individuals involved are prosecuted.

However, he added, “I don’t remember any of these House managers saying a damn thing when they were trying to break into my house and going after Susan Collins and spitting on all of us.”

Watch the video below:

The House impeachment managers are arguing in the Senate’s trial of former President Donald Trump that he incited the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) also weighed in on the Democrats’ arguments, “They spent a lot of time yesterday convincing us what I already knew and believed. And that is that the attack on Jan. 6 was outrageous, criminal, deadly, it could have been far worse, I knew that as well.”

However, he signaled that he did not believe the impeachment managers swayed his opinion on whether impeachment was appropriate.

While Graham called their arguments “offensive,” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said the managers have presented a “strong case.”

“The evidence that has been presented thus far is pretty damning,” she added.

It is seen as unlikely that enough Republicans would vote to convict Trump, which would require 67-votes. The Senate is currently split 50-50, which means at least 17 Republicans would have to vote to convict.

However, the majority of the Senate Republican caucus has twice voted to declare that an impeachment trial of a former president is unconstitutional.

Responses

  1. The proof that the violent people on Jan 6 were Antifa and Democrats WAS the calls for an attack on Pence. If you bothered to watch the video, Trump supporters were seen and heard telling the violent Democrats to stop breaking the windows or entering. All year in 2020, Democrats were the violent rioters at the White House, in DC, in Portland, in Seattle and Kenosha. They constantly attacked and damaged federal buildings and police stations with support from Democrat officials. Biden’s staffers bailed them out so the could riot again. But, the second fake impeachment goes on, with Democrats trying to prevent a political opponent from running in 2024. Wasn’t that the false accusation against Trump in the first fake impeachment. Lying, cheating, corrupt Democrats.

  2. I question the Republican senators voting for impeachment because of their ignorance of the Constitution, the one they SWORE to uphold and defend; in other words their oath of office. The impeachment is unconstitutional and does not meet any requirement for validity. Nowhere does it state impeaching a citizen. Impeachment is about removing a sitting president. Trump is not in office. If those democrats and republicans in the House and Senate support this farce, this fiasco, this unconstitutional circus, they should be removed from office for violating their oath of office. Come election time they should be voted out but, alas, when people like AOC, Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, Schumer, Omar, and those of their ilk are reelected I have lost hope that my fellow men and women have a spark of common sense. They just don’t care what happens in our government unless it directly affect them. How sad. These people are why we have the dyfunctional government we have.

    1. ‘Nowhere does it state impeaching a citizen.’ Ed

One can’t be a president without being a US citizen, Ed.

On top of that, citizens OTHER THAN presidents can be impeached, too. Just so that you know, of course.

    2. Look at history as the House manager put forward, other politicians in the past has been impeach also the impeach Trump Jan 11 I believe, and the House wanted to send the article of impeachment after they did it, But McConnell would not call back the Senate for the impeachment trial and they agree to hold the trial after the Senate comes back off of break. So technical the house got screw because of McConnell as always. McConnell obstruct the impeachment, and Biden has to get his administration in place also so that is a double screw on impeach Trump. I called Trump an Teflon President, everything he does wrong, it slide right off of him without any consequences for his action.

  3. The Democrats Party
Is on their way out. Real Americans will not tolerate their behavior.

    1. You seem confused, there, Ron. Let me help you out.

81,282,903 real Americans tolerated Joke Biden enough to vote for him. A few million more than tolerated President Who?, that’s for sure.

  4. Twinkly toes Graham only survives because South Carolina is still living in the good ol Jim Crow era.

  5. “I think most Republicans found the presentation by the House managers offensive and absurd.”” Sen. Graham

I find that having our president invite a riot that ended up actually being an insurrection to be offensive and absurd.

I find that the GOP/AFP still retaining 37% popularity to be offensive and absurd. The Republican Party’s rating in 1992 was 53 percent. By December 1998, it plummeted to 31 percent. In early 2002 after the 911 attacks, favorability rose to 61 percent, but it has never risen above 40 percent since 2006. President Who? crashed even THAT party. The only thing that keeps the party viable are things such as gerrymandering and voter suppression. It certainly hasn’t been their policies.

    1. Schumer threatens Kavanaugh and Gorsuch. Maxine incites against Trump and his cabinet. Omar thinks something happened on 9/11. Nancy thinks statue tumblers are people going to do what they do. Obama thought the police acted stupidly.

  6. Dear Lord. If Marco and Lindsey do not perceive inciting an insurrection that took the life of a Capitol policeman, damaged the Capitol building, damaged the reputation of the United States of America, THEN WHAT IS AN IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE? We know from Lindsey’s Dec, 1998 House vote that lying during a deposition about an extramarital affair is impeachable offense. BUT inciting your supporters to attempt to hang Mike Pence and kill Nancy Pelosi ISN’T AN IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE in EVERY world but Trump Cult World.

And WHAT was offensive about the videos of Trump supporters attacking the Capitol and D.C. Metro police? Is it offensive that the entire country is aware the Trump Party assertion that they believe “Blue Lives Matter” was an empty talking point?

    1. Maybe Maxine and Schumer and Omar and Talib and Swalwell and Schiff actions and words could be impeachable. Nothing has happened to them. Your side does not grasp Blue Lives Matter. Your side embraces those rioters and looters. Now we have the National Guard protecting who? Where were they during all this burning and looting this last summer? Sounds like a well rounded empty talking point

    2. I think that the difference is that one of those things actually happened while the other is a figment of leftists’ imaginations caused by TDS.
