Vice President Kamala Harris is recognizing President Joe Biden’s empathy as a “trademark” of his presidency.
While delivering remarks at a Rose Garden event, Harris celebrated the president’s first legislative win with the passage of his $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, also known as the American Rescue Plan.
“Your empathy has become a trademark of your presidency and can be found on each and every page of the American Rescue Plan,” Harris said on Friday.

Biden signed the relief bill on Thursday afternoon, as IJR reported. He said, “This historic legislation is about rebuilding the backbone of this country.”
The House of Representatives passed the bill on Wednesday. Included in the legislation is $400 billion for $1,400 direct payments, $350 billion for state and local governments, $56 billion for childcare programs, $109 billion for public health, and more.
The vice president’s comments come one day after Biden delivered his first prime-time address since taking office, as IJR reported.
He delivered the address on the first anniversary of the COVID-19 lockdown. Biden seemingly took a swipe at the Trump administration claiming the pandemic was met with “denials for days, then weeks, then months, that led to more deaths, more infections, more stress, more loneliness.”
Biden promised Americans they will “come out stronger.” In addition to commemorating those who lost their lives to the virus, the president said he was ordering all states to make every adult eligible to receive the vaccine by May 1.
Former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany criticized Biden’s address. During her appearance on Fox News “Hannity” on Thursday, she compared Trump’s speeches with Biden’s.
McEnany explained speeches are “not something [Trump] had to practice 10 times on a teleprompter” and “he was not afraid of questions.”
She argued Trump’s speeches are the “diametric opposite” of “what you’re getting from the Biden basement strategy administration.”
