There are five reasons for former President Donald Trump does not want another debate, Vice President Kamala Harris’ team claimed on Friday morning.
Those five reasons deal with the “toxic positions” he would have to defend in another faceoff, the campaign says, The Hill reported.
Ian Sams, Harris’ campaign senior spokesperson and senior adviser for rapid response, said in a memo Friday that there are “five toxic positions Trump took” that will haunt him if he has to defend them.
“While much of the focus the past few days has rightly been on Vice President Harris’ total and complete shutdown of Trump, it shouldn’t be lost in the shuffle that Trump took at least five toxic positions on the debate stage,” Sams said.
Sams added those positions include Trump not saying if he would veto a national abortion ban; his position on the 2020 election and saying “we” when referencing the rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021; saying he had “concepts of a plan” to repeal ObamaCare; and not saying if he wanted Ukraine to win the war with Russia.
Harris immediately called for another debate, but that notion was shot down when Trump claimed victory in Tuesday’s debate and refusing another one.
Trump saying he has “concepts of a plan” drew criticism from Harris’ campaign.
“Trump should have to answer for these positions,” Sams said. “Trump doesn’t want to have to account for them on another debate stage, but he should have to say what the ‘concepts’ are that he is considering to repeal the ACA,” among other explanations.
“One thing is clear through it all: Trump’s answers on these issues under the bright lights of the debate stage will come back to haunt him in November,” he said.
