Vice President Kamala Harris is leading former President Donald Trump across Hispanic likely voters in the swing state of Arizona, although a significant portion of voters are still undecided, according to findings from a TelevisaUnivision/Media Predict poll released Thursday.

Harris is polling at 43% among Hispanic likely voters in Arizona, which is an 18-point lead over Trump’s 25%, according to the poll. Despite Harris’ substantial lead, nearly a third of Hispanic likely voters are still reportedly undecided on who they will cast their ballot for in November.

“People are not certain,” Kathy Whitlock, vice president of strategy & insights at TelevisaUnivision, told Politico. “They don’t have enough information. They know Donald Trump from years ago, but they want to know Donald Trump now. Kamala Harris, they don’t know that much about but they want to hear about Kamala Harris now … She’s really unknown, so they’re excited because of the change, but they need to be convinced.”

A similar trend can be seen for the swing state’s senatorial candidates, with 44% of Hispanic likely voters reporting they will vote for Democratic candidate Ruben Gallego while just 18% said they will vote for Republican candidate Kari Lake, according to the poll. As a result, 36% of Hispanic likely voters remain uncertain about who they will vote for.

Arizona has over 800,000 Hispanic voters, making up about 20% of the state’s electorate, making Arizona the state with the largest Hispanic voting population across all seven battlegrounds.

Only 33% of Hispanic likely voters in the crucial swing state believe the country is headed in the right direction, according to the poll. The top concerns Hispanic likely voters reported pertain to economic issues like the cost of living, inflation, affordable housing and jobs.

“They’re making a lot less money than non-Hispanics, they’ve got more kids in the household and they are renters,” Whitlock told Politico. “So they are really, really focused on pocketbook issues. If you look at what’s important to them, it’s especially affordable housing. Crime and immigration are important, but a lot of them are taking two or three jobs just to get by.”

Some experts point to the Biden-Harris administration’s excessive government spending as a leading factor that has contributed to recent sky-high inflation that has burdened average Americans. The Biden-Harris Administration has led the way on several spending initiatives, such as the American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act, which have helped hike the federal deficit to over $35 trillion for the first time in American history.
