Newly released bodycam footage shows the devastating moment an 11-year-old boy was killed in a road-rage incident on a Las Vegas-area freeway, leaving his stepfather in anguish.
According to the New York Post, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released the video, which captures the boy’s stepdad, Valente Ayala, screaming in disbelief and grief as he points to his Chevy SUV.
“My kid is dead! My son!” Ayala shouted, collapsing onto the freeway shoulder after realizing his stepson, Brandon Dominguez, had been fatally shot.
The incident occurred on Nov. 15 at around 7:30 a.m. when Ayala was driving Brandon to school along Interstate 215 in Henderson. Police said the tragedy unfolded after Ayala and 22-year-old Tyler Matthew Johns became entangled in a heated lane dispute.
The bodycam footage shows Johns calmly approaching an officer, putting his hands behind his back, and confessing to the shooting. “I shot at him, bro,” Johns reportedly said, admitting that the confrontation was “100 percent my fault.” He added, “I didn’t know there was a f—ing kid in the back and I killed him.”
According to Henderson police, both drivers had been weaving through traffic, rolling down their windows, and yelling at each other before Johns allegedly drew a handgun and fired at Ayala’s vehicle.
Ayala then rammed into Johns’ car, forcing both to stop in the middle of the freeway, where a second altercation occurred before officers intervened.
Johns was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder and discharging a firearm into a vehicle.
The boy’s family expressed their grief in a GoFundMe tribute, writing, “There are no words big enough to describe the pain we are feeling. Brandon was the light of our family — our happy, loving boy with the biggest heart, the silliest personality, and a joy that filled every room he entered.”
The GoFundMe has raised nearly $38,400 to support Brandon’s family. Johns is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 4.
This tragic incident has left the community reeling and highlights the deadly consequences of road rage confrontations, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
